Year Running: 2015/2016
Credit level: F6
Pre-requisites   MEC203
    MEC303 or MEC203
Additional Information   Restricted to students registered for a Programme of Study within the Faculty of Engineering

Description

The aim of this module is to extend and deepen students' knowledge and understanding of engineering thermodynamics, particularly with regard to energy optimisation. By the end of this module students will be able to discuss the merits and limitations of various equations of state; estimate the thermodynamic properties of single component real fluids from first principles; describe the basics of cyrogenics; compare the performance of practical and ideal (vc) refrigerators; describe the operation of absorption refrigerators; understand the principles of operation of fuel cells; undertake a thermodynamic analysis of an absorption refrigerator; use energy function to analyse plants; apply Second Law analysis; use unsteady flow energy equation.
